Property Description

Baurisheen Cottage (www.baurisheen.com) is located on the shores of Lough Corrib within walking distance of Oughterard, which is between Galway city and Clifden in the west of Ireland.

Located on the serene Baurisheen Peninsula, this delightful holiday home is surrounded by a substantial tranquil garden with the lake at the front and back of the house. All rooms have beautiful views of Lough Corrib, the largest lake in the Republic of Ireland, which is world famous for its fresh water trout and salmon and brings fishermen from all over the world to try their luck.

This is an ideal retreat for families with plenty of activities and local attractions to enjoy. If you choose to stay on the property, you can enjoy the tranquillity of the beautiful garden and its views, or swim in the lake on warm summer days followed by a barbeque watching the breathtaking sunset over Lough Corrib. A highlight for guests is a day trip on the lake - pack a picnic, hire a boat and take in the spectacular views while you head to Inchagoill Island. Some of our favourite family day trips include Brigit's Garden, a trip to Ashford Castle on the Corrib Queen, or visiting one of Ireland's top beaches which have been awarded the 'Blue Flag' beaches (include this hyperlink http://www.beachawards.ie/) either further to the west near Roundstone or outside Galway city. A day trip or overnight stay to the Aran Islands is not to be missed.

Baurisheen Cottage is also the perfect base for fishing groups who want to enjoy fresh water fishing on the lake. Mayfly is, of course, one of the highlights of the year. Lough Corrib sits in the heart of Co. Galway providing some of the best wild brown trout and salmon fishing in Ireland and Europe. The Corrib, as it is affectionately known, lies mainly in Co. Galway with beautiful Connemara on its western shoreline, and borders Co. Mayo to the north. Angling boats are available to hire locally as well as experienced local guides.

In Oughterard there is a playground, golf club and equestrian centre for trekking or lessons. The lovely Owenriff River runs through Oughterard, starting in the Connemara Mountains and emptying, at the edge of town, into Lough Corrib. The Connemara Mountains, just west of town, provide some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world. The rocky landscape, turf field, scattered lakes and sheep dotting the mountainsides are sights you will never forget.

This is a well-maintained family cottage which sleeps eight persons. It has a large but cosy sitting room / dining room with open fireplace, ideal for turf fires on chilly evenings. Two double rooms have bathrooms en suite (with showers and bath). There is also one twin bedded room and one room with bunk beds as well as a third bathroom. The kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher, large fridge/freezer and microwave. Guests also have the use of a clothes washing machine, tumble dryer, airing cupboard, second large refrigerator and a gas barbeque.
