Surrounding Area
The holiday home is situated near the route of renowned Atlantic Drive - a
truly spectacular coastal drive around the rugged Rosguill Peninsula. To
drive or walk along this wonderful coast road is to feel life's
difficulties slipping away. The official start of the road is in Downings
village. It winds its way north along the shores of Mulroy Bay towards
Melmore Head - past the renowned Singing Pub and numerous unspoilt
beaches and inlets. All along this part of the drive there are dramatic
views of the Fanad Peninsula on the other side of the Bay - including some
breathtaking views of the new Mulroy Bridge that links the Fanad and
Rosguill Peninsulas.

Melmore Head is at the most northern point of the peninsula - 2 km from the
holiday home. At Melmore Head the sands shine, the ocean sparkles and the
views continue to enrapture and enchant. The Atlantic Drive turns south
near the holiday home to meander along the western shores of the peninsula
- first passing the spectacular Tranarossan Bay and then following the
shores of Sheephaven Bay back into Downings. There are wonderful views of
Horn Head, Tory Island, Muckish Mountain and Ards Forest Park along this
stretch of the drive.

The natural landscape of the Rosguill Peninsula also provides the basis for
many of the activities that the visitor can enjoy - including windsurfing,
kite surfing, deep sea diving, sea angling and hill walking. The holiday
home is a 7 minute drive from the centre of Downings village. Downings is a
very popular tourist resort and fishing port with lively pubs and night-
life. The magnificent sand hills between Downings and nearby Carrigart are
the setting for the two superb golf links at Rosapenna - the Sandy Hills
course is now ranked No 17 in Ireland (Golf Digest)

* Go sea angling or sightseeing on Sheephaven Bay - licensed charter
boats are available at Downings. Fishing includes Bluefin Tuna, Shark and
Tope.
* Enjoy the indoor facilities at the Magherabeg Leisure Centre
* Take a trip around the spectacular coastal drives in the region -
the Atlantic Drive, Horn Head, Lough Salt Drive and the Fanad Drive
* Visit Glenveagh National Park, with 16,000 hectares of mountains,
lakes, wood and bogs. Glenveagh contains the largest red deer population in
Europe. Within the National Park Glenveagh Castle and gardens are well
worth a visit on their own
* Find numerous peaceful roads, country lanes and mountain tracks to
walk.
* Climb Muckish and Errigal. Mount Errigal, the highest mountain in
Donegal is a demanding climb and once on the summit you can see for miles
around.
