There has recently been an announcement of the government's stimulus package which has given the go ahead for the 500 Million urban quarter in Grangegorman and DIT's new third level campus. This project is set to bring 20,000 students to the Dublin 7 area by 2017 as well preserving and restoring a number of listed buildings. A new health science research facility for 1,000 students will also be built and 39 DIT facilities situated around Dublin will be relocated to the Grangegorman site. As part of this package a new 5.6km Luas Broombridge line was given the go ahead, which will run from the green line's Stephen's Green stop in the city centre to Broombridge via O'Connell Street and also past the new DIT campus in Grangegorman. This will no doubt greatly rejuvenate the surrounding areas and further build upon the new lease of life that the Dublin 7 area has received as a result of the work done to the market plaza in Smithfield. The first groups of Fine Arts students are set to move into the new campus on Grangegorman in 2014.
