With the announcement of the government's stimulus package which has given the go ahead for the 500 Million urban quarter in Grangegorman and DIT's new third level campus, the project is set to bring 20,000 students to the Dublin 7 area by 2017 as well as preserving and restoring a number of listed buildings. A new health science research facility for 1,000 students will also be built and 39 DIT facilities situated around Dublin will be relocated to the Grangegorman site. As part of this package a new 5.6km Luas Broombridge line was given the go ahead, which will run from the green line's Stephen's Green stop in the city centre to Broombridge via O'Connell Street and also past the new DIT campus in Grangegorman.
